A Visit to Grandmother

Direct characterization:

  • Charles is a doctor, he attended medical school in Nashville.
  • "He stood in the doorway, smiling broadly, an engaging, open , friendly smile, the innocent smile of five-year-old."  This shows that GL is engaging.

 Indirect characterization:

  • Charles is a very jealous person, seen through his anger that GL (a younger, more foolish brother) received more attention from his mother
  • " You was more growed up than GL when you was five and he was ten."

Metaphor

The poem Metaphor that we recently took is inspiring, and gives us hope. Everyday is a new day,a. new fresh. The poet used metaphors, comparing a new day like a new paper, a clean one, unlike the folded paper of yesterday. I chose the poem metaphor because it relates to our everyday life, what happened in the past should stay in the past, and we have to forget about it, because we obviously cant go back and change anything. "Don't let a bad day make you feel like you have a bad life".
